Description

JX Filtration offers a full range of channel drum screens from compact single-unit models to high-capacity installations, with flexible customization options to suit various channel widths and screening needs across municipal and industrial wastewater treatment—continuous, automated, and built for demanding conditions.

A channel drum screen, also known as an in-channel rotary drum screen, is a mechanical screening device installed directly within a wastewater channel to remove fine solids, fibers, and suspended matter from the flow. The unit combines a rotating cylindrical drum screen, a spiral screw conveyor, and a compaction zone into a single integrated system. Available in internally fed configurations where flow enters the drum interior and exits through the screen surface, the channel drum screen achieves continuous screening without interruption and is an economical solution for wastewater pretreatment and MBR protection.

Working Principle

  • Filtration Stage: Wastewater flows into the rotating drum through the open front end. A specialized seal between the channel wall and the drum inlet prevents unscreened wastewater from bypassing the screen. As water passes through the drum surface from inside to outside, solids are retained on the internal screen surface.
  • Cleaning & Transport: As solids accumulate, the water level upstream rises. When the preset differential head loss is reached, the drum begins rotating. Paddles or a spiral screw fixed to the inner drum surface lift the retained screenings toward the top of the drum, where a spray nozzle bar washes them into a discharge trough. The spiral conveyor then transports the screenings through an optional washing and compaction zone before discharge.
  • Continuous Operation: The entire cycle—screening, washing, conveying, and dewatering—is performed in one unit with a single drive motor. The drum rotates only when needed, minimizing energy consumption and wear.

Advantages

  • Integrated all-in-one design – Screening, washing, conveying, and compaction in one unit, no extra equipment needed
  • Compact in-channel installation – Installed directly in the channel at a 35-degree incline, saving civil construction costs and space
  • Automatic self-cleaning – External spray bar and cleaning brush maintain screen surface permeability, reducing manual intervention
  • Low energy consumption – Drum rotates only when differential head loss triggers operation
  • Corrosion-resistant construction – Drum, frame, and screw available in SS304 or SS316L for long service in harsh wastewater environments
  • Low maintenance – large self-lubricating bronze bushings need no lube pump; pivot mount design simplifies inspection and servicing
