Description

JX Filtration offers a comprehensive range of sand filters designed for effective removal of suspended solids, colloids, silt, and particulate impurities from water and liquid streams. Also known as quartz sand filters, these equipment are widely used as pretreatment for pure water systems, mineral water production, circulating water treatment, and wastewater treatment applications. Our sand filters utilize a bed of quartz sand or other granular media as the filtration medium, operating through physical interception, adsorption, and sedimentation mechanisms.

Available in conventional deep-bed configurations, shallow sand filters with compact footprint, and high-speed automatic backwash designs, our sand filters accommodate a broad range of flow rates and water quality conditions. With filtration efficiencies up to 99% and customizable control systems—including manual, semi-automatic, and fully automatic PLC-controlled backwash—they deliver reliable, consistent filtration performance for industrial, municipal, and agricultural applications.

Working Principle

The sand filter operates through two alternating phases—filtration and backwashing:

  • Filtration Stage: Raw water enters from the filter inlet and percolates downward through the filter bed. The filter bed typically consists of layered media—coarser particles on top and finer particles below—including quartz sand (0.5–1.2 mm), anthracite, or activated carbon. As water flows through the sand layer, suspended solids and particulate impurities are trapped on the surface and within the gaps between media particles through physical interception and adsorption. Clean water passes through the filtration nozzles or bottom collector and exits via the outlet.
  • Backwashing Stage: When the differential pressure across the filter reaches a preset value (typically 0.05 MPa), or after a programmed time interval, the cleaning cycle is automatically or manually initiated. Pressurized water flows in the reverse direction—from the nozzles upward—causing the filter bed to expand and fluidize. This reverse flow releases trapped suspended matter from the media bed, and the dirt particles are washed out through the backwash drain valve. A subsequent positive wash (downflow) follows until the effluent runs clear. The entire regeneration process typically takes 5–7 minutes.
