Description

JX Filtration offers a full range of vacuum drum filters from laboratory-scale to large industrial models, with flexible customization options to suit various capacities and separation needs across chemical, pharmaceutical, food, and environmental applications—continuous, automated, and built for demanding conditions.

A vacuum drum filter, also known as a rotary vacuum filter, is a continuous filtration device that uses negative pressure as the driving force for solid-liquid separation. The equipment features a horizontal rotating drum with a perforated shell covered by filter cloth or media. The drum is divided into multiple individual filter chambers, each sequentially connected to vacuum and compressed air systems through a distribution valve. As the drum rotates through a slurry trough, solids are deposited on the filter surface forming a cake, which is then dried, washed, and discharged—all in a continuous, automated cycle.

Working Principle

The vacuum drum filter operates through a continuous four-stage cycle as the drum rotates:

  • Filtration Stage: The lower portion of the drum is submerged in the slurry trough. As the drum rotates, filter chambers in the submerged zone are connected to the vacuum system. Negative pressure draws liquid through the filter cloth, while solid particles are retained on the cloth surface, forming a filter cake.
  • Washing & Drying Stage: As the drum rotates out of the slurry, the filter cake continues to be exposed to vacuum, removing entrained liquid. For applications requiring high purity, wash water can be sprayed onto the cake surface while the corresponding chambers remain under vacuum, displacing residual mother liquor.
  • Cake Discharge Stage: When the filter chamber reaches the discharge zone, it is switched from vacuum to compressed air. The positive pressure blows back through the filter cloth, loosening the cake. A scraper blade then removes the loosened cake from the drum surface.
  • Cloth Regeneration Stage: After cake discharge, compressed air continues to blow through the filter cloth, clearing residual particles and restoring permeability for the next cycle. The entire process repeats continuously as the drum rotates.
