Description

JX Filtration offers a full range of disc centrifuges from laboratory-scale to industrial models, with flexible customization options to suit various capacities and separation needs across chemical, pharmaceutical, food, and environmental applications—reliable, efficient, and fully automated.

A disc centrifuge is a high-speed centrifugal separation device that uses a stack of conical discs inside a rotating drum to achieve continuous solid-liquid or liquid-liquid separation. The disc stack significantly increases the separation area within a compact space, enabling efficient separation of fine particles and immiscible liquids. Available in two-phase (solid-liquid) and three-phase (solid-liquid-liquid) configurations, disc centrifuges are widely used in dairy processing, oil purification, beverage clarification, pharmaceutical extraction, and many other industries.

Disc Centrifuge Disc Stack Centrifuge

Working Principle

The disc centrifuge operates on the principle of centrifugal sedimentation. The motor drives the vertical shaft to rotate the drum at high speed, typically 4,000–12,000 r/min. Inside the drum, a stack of conical discs is arranged with small gaps between each disc. Feed liquid enters the drum through a central feed pipe and flows outward through the gaps between the discs.

Under the strong centrifugal force field, heavier solid particles or denser liquid droplets are thrown outward against the disc surfaces and settle. The sediment slides along the disc surfaces and accumulates at the largest diameter of the drum, while the lighter liquid phase moves inward and is discharged through separate outlets. The two separated phases are discharged from their respective channels, and the entire process is continuous and stable. The disc stack design reduces the settling distance of particles to a minimum, achieving separation factors up to 10,000×G.

Two-Phase and Three-Phase Separation

Advantages

  • High separation efficiency – Separation factors up to 10,000×G enable rapid and thorough separation of fine particles and immiscible liquids
  • Compact design with large capacity – Disc stack multiplies separation area within a small footprint
  • Continuous operation – Automatic feeding, separation, and discharge support 24/7 production
  • High separation precision – Can separate particles down to 1 micron
  • Versatile configurations – Available in two-phase (solid-liquid) and three-phase (solid-liquid-liquid) designs
  • Fully enclosed operation – Clean, safe, and low-noise working environment
  • Automatic CIP cleaning – Integrated clean-in-place system reduces manual intervention and downtime
