Description

JX Filtration offers a full range of disc filters from compact single-unit models to multi-module systems, with flexible customization options to suit various flow rates and filtration needs across industrial, commercial, and agricultural applications—reliable, efficient, and fully automated.

A disc filter, also known as a stacked disc filter or disc stack filter, is a mechanical filtration device that uses a set of grooved plastic or metal discs stacked together as the filter medium. The grooves on adjacent discs intersect to form numerous filter channels, capturing suspended solids through both surface interception and depth filtration. With high filtration precision, low water consumption during backwashing, and fully automatic operation, disc filters are widely used in water treatment, irrigation, cooling water systems, and various industrial process applications.

Disc Filter System Multi-Module Disc Filter

Working Principle

The disc filter operates through two alternating phases—filtration and backwashing:

  • Filtration Stage: Raw water enters the filter housing and passes through the disc stack. The filter discs are pressed tightly together by spring force and hydraulic pressure. As water flows through the grooves on the disc surfaces, suspended solids are intercepted at the intersecting points formed by adjacent disc grooves. The passage size continuously decreases from the outside inward, creating a depth filtration effect that captures particles of various sizes. Clean water exits through the outlet.
  • Backwashing Stage: When the differential pressure reaches a preset value or after a programmed time interval, the cleaning cycle is automatically initiated. The controller sends a signal to change the flow direction, releasing the compressed discs. Pressurized water is sprayed from nozzles, driving the discs to rotate at high speed and flushing away intercepted impurities. The backwash water carries the debris out through the drain valve. The entire backwashing process typically completes in 7–20 seconds, with water consumption less than 0.5% of the filtered water volume. During backwashing, other filter units in a multi-module system continue normal operation, ensuring uninterrupted flow.

Advantages

  • High filtration precision – Available from 5μm to 600μm
  • Space-saving design – Compact footprint, occupying significantly less space than traditional sand filters
  • Continuous outflow – Filter units are backwashed in rotation while others work normally, ensuring uninterrupted flow
  • Modular design – Standard modular system allows users to add or remove modules as needed, with strong interchangeability
  • Low maintenance – No daily maintenance required, simple installation and operation
