Description

JX Filtration offers a full range of mechanical bar screens from compact fine screens to heavy-duty coarse bar screens, with flexible customization options to suit various channel widths and screening needs across municipal and industrial wastewater treatment—reliable, efficient, and fully automated.

A mechanical bar screen, also known as an automated bar screen, mechanical grille, or rotary fine bar screen, is a specialized solid-liquid separation device that continuously intercepts and removes debris of various shapes from fluid streams. The equipment is widely used in municipal wastewater treatment plants, water supply facilities, power plant intakes, and also serves as essential pre-treatment equipment in textile, food processing, papermaking, leather, and other industrial wastewater treatment processes.

Mechanical Bar Screen

Working Principle

The mechanical bar screen operates through a continuous self-cleaning cycle driven by a motor and reducer:

  • Interception Stage: The rake tooth chain, assembled from a series of specially designed rake teeth, rotates in the opposite direction to the water flow. As the chain moves through the channel, the rake teeth intercept and capture suspended solids and floating debris of various shapes. The gap between adjacent rake teeth determines the effective screening aperture and can be selected based on separation requirements.
  • Lifting & Discharge Stage: The rake tooth chain carries the captured screenings upward along the inclined screen frame. When the chain reaches the upper limit of the frame, the rake teeth reverse direction under the guidance of guide wheels and curved rails, causing the solid material to fall by gravity into a collection container or conveyor.
  • Self-Cleaning Stage: A pair of rubber scraper brushes cleans residual debris from each row of rake teeth as they pass, completing one full cleaning cycle. The rake tooth chain can operate continuously or intermittently, and the system supports level-difference-based automatic control, periodic operation, and manual control for maintenance flexibility.

Advantages
