Description

JX Filtration offers a full range of rotary drum screens from compact externally fed units to high-capacity internally fed models, with flexible customization options to suit various flow rates and screening needs across municipal and industrial wastewater treatment—continuous, automated, and easy to maintain.

A rotary drum screen, also known as a rotary drum fine screen, is a mechanical screening device that uses a rotating cylindrical drum fitted with stainless steel wedge wire screen or perforated plate as the filter medium. It is widely used to separate settleable solids from liquid in municipal and industrial wastewater treatment plants. The equipment consists of a transmission device, overflow weir water distributor, flushing water device, and other major components. Available in internally fed (flow fed and distributed inside the screening cylinder) and externally fed (flow fed outside the drum) configurations, the rotary drum screen achieves continuous screening without interruption and is an economical solution for fiber recovery and wastewater pretreatment.

Working Principle

  • Internally Fed Type: The treated water enters the overflow weir distributor through the inlet pipe. After a short period of steady flow, it evenly overflows from the outlet and is distributed onto the filter drum that rotates in the opposite direction. The water flow generates a relative shearing motion with the inner wall of the drum, causing solid matter to be retained and separated. The retained solids tumble along the spiral guide plate inside the drum and discharge from the other end, while the filtered wastewater flows out from the tank underneath. A flushing water pipe outside the drum sprays pressure water in a fan-shaped manner to keep the filter mesh clean and maintain good filtering capability.
  • Externally Fed Type: As the speed-regulating motor drives the drum through a speed reducer, sewage enters the tank through the inlet valve and rises above the filtering waterline through the buffer box clapboard. Purified water passes through the grid mesh slot into the bottom of the tube and flows out. Impurities and organic matters larger than the mesh slot are blocked on the outer surface of the drum and transferred to the discharge side, where they are removed by the unloader into the slag hopper. The inverted trapezoidal section of the grid prevents slag from jamming the mesh.
