Description

JX Filtration offers a full range of sieve bend screens from standard 45° dewatering units to 270°/300° fine screening arcs, with flexible customization options to suit various flow rates and separation cut points across wastewater treatment, food processing, pulp and paper, and mineral processing—reliable, efficient, and completely maintenance-friendly.

A sieve bend screen, also known as a DSM screen, side hill screen, parabolic screen, or static curved screen, is a stationary solid-liquid separation device consisting of a concave curved wedge wire panel mounted in a stainless steel frame, with the screen openings perpendicular to the flow direction. Unlike rotating or vibrating screens, it has no moving parts, operating solely through gravity and the natural flow of the slurry. The curved profile creates additional centrifugal and gravitational forces that press liquid through the slots, giving a curved screen greater dewatering capacity than a flat wedge wire panel of the same area.

Working Principle

  • Feed Distribution: The slurry or wastewater is introduced into a feed box positioned above the screen. The overflow weir evenly distributes the material across the full width of the curved screen surface.
  • Separation & Dewatering: As the slurry flows down the inclined arc, liquid and fine particles pass through the narrow slots between the wedge wire profiles, while larger solids continue along the screen surface. The V-shaped profile wires are slightly tilted so the leading edge sits higher, which accelerates dewatering and reduces clogging. The separation cut point is approximately half the slot width—for example, a 0.5 mm slot will separate particles down to about 0.25 mm.
  • Solid Discharge: The dewatered solids, driven by hydraulic action and gravity, slide off the lower end of the curved screen for collection or further processing, while the filtered liquid falls through to a collection area below.

Advantages

  • Zero energy consumption – Operates entirely on gravity and the natural flow of the liquid, with no electricity or drive motor required
  • No moving parts – Minimal wear and maintenance; typically limited to occasional inspection and cleaning
  • High capacity per unit width – Curved design exerts additional forces that increase dewatering throughput compared to flat screens
  • Clog-resistant wedge wire – The trapezoidal profile with narrow top and wide bottom gaps ensures smooth drainage and reduces blockage
  • Effective pretreatment – Significantly reduces suspended solids concentration, lowering the load on downstream treatment processes
  • Multiple arc angle options – Available in 45°, 60°, 120°, 270°, and 300° to match space and performance requirements
  • All-stainless construction – High mechanical strength, resistance to deformation, and long service life in corrosive environments
  • Easy screen replacement – Simple drop-in panel design with no special tools required
